CARNIVAL GLASS MINIATURE COW
“Little Cow”

by Jennie Hostetler

Suzie White found the first reported Little Cow in Iowa around 20 years ago.  This Little Cow was sold at the White’s auction at the Texas Carnival Glass Club Convention in 1995.  Both John Britt and Eleanor Hamilton, long time miniature collectors, wanted the Little Cow.  The bidding ended at $700.00 and the Little Cow went home to Waco, Texas, with Eleanor.  Eleanor was very proud of her Little Cow and featured it in many of her room displays at Carnival Glass Conventions.

After Eleanor’s death the Little Cow was sold at the Texas Carnival Glass Club Convention in 2008 for $310.00.  I’m not positive who bought it but I think it stayed in Texas.

This was the only reported Little Cow until Jerry and Carol Curtis found one at an estate sale in Orange, Texas, in April, 2009.

In July, 2010 I found the third known Little Cow at an antique mall in Oklahoma City.  The Little Cow is 2 3/8” long from tip of nose to tail and stands 1 5/8” high.  Marigold is the only color known.

Dave Doty in his Field Guide to Carnival Glass says the Little Cow “seems to be smiling”.  Well, I was definitely smiling when I saw the $9.95 price tag on my Little Cow.  Its exciting to find a rarity, but even better to find one at a bargain price. ◊
