Fish Bowl AKA Goldfish |

|
During a recent trip to a small Texas Antique Mall our efforts were rewarded when we discovered this little rarity call "Fish Bowl" by Bill Edwards and "Goldfish" in Book Ten of the Marion Hartung series.
While not listed in Dave Doty's first two publications, it is shown on his website where he describes one that sold on eBay ™ in 2005 with a selling price of $400. Dean and Diane Fry also have this piece listed and shown on their website where it is called "Fish Bowl". None of the above mentioned authors give any attribution to this bowl. A search of Tom Mordini's Price Guides back to 1988 did not have a listing where one had been sold at auction.
The bowl is seven and one-half inches across and two inches deep and the fish, air bubbles, and water designs are "Intagio" on the exterior of the wide bottom bowl. The sides have a series of prisms and narrow panels again on the exterior. I would suspect this may be foreign production with the intention to represent a fish other than a Goldfish, perhaps a Golden Carp. The above photos (top) is of the exterior pattern to better show the intaglio design. The bowl displays better when the intaglio design faces outward. |
